Wim courtesty Sam Bookatz
Keyboardist Simon Jankelson switches to accordion to provide an intro to John which makes you feel you should be slow dancing in the sweaty streets of 1950’s Cuba. Blessed with a captivating on-stage presence and endearing demeanour, Wim’s sound is adventurous without being indulgently experimental, and makes them a band to watch in 2010. They may just be my favourite discovery of the new year.

As in Wim Wenders… Dare we say diamond in the rough (but digging itself out brilliantly)? Lets. This Australian quintet proves to show some serious potential with their dynamic play of melody and rhythm. Going from fun bass riffs to drone-filled chants over strong piano notes—that might leave you in complete melancholy—wim offers the sort of song-writing that looks promising for 2010 and beyond. After a short and successful tour stateside, and leaving some good impressions (TKTKTK), be on the look out for some goodness from this charming act.
Thanks to all who those who came down to 7 metre Bar for the laneway festival!!
Over 1000 people attended to drink spicy cocktails and dance to DJs and live bands in this little known pop-bar in Underwood street. If you haven’t been yet definitely drop in for a drink before you’re too late
What a night…! Lets hope Sydney can follow this one up with more laneway venues and events!

We wind our way up the Hollywood hills in a two car convoy hell-bent on catching a meteor shower, pulled by cosmic dust amongst the yellow glow of a flicker city, the lamp lit miles of flat and then us in the hills that cut it all in half…Out of cars and traversing our way up the hilltop in boots and tailored shoes, climbing to the Hollywood sign and the hellish-cum-dystopian-cum-beautiful spectacle that is Los Angeles from the hilltops…a glowing monster. A congregation brought here on the fringes of desert and ocean…and amongst it all, alone on the tip of it, us…
We sang songs, acapella, hit body parts, made music…we made it feel real. What an amazing thing it is to cross a planet and find yourself in such a space…people brought together by creativity and feelings and so we were there singing classic songs, songs broadcast from this place we found ourselves onto our unsuspecting minds when we were children.
Above the Hollywood sign, amidst the glow, we finally arrived after nearly three weeks. One more day in the studio and the music begins to take shape. The music brought us here but friendships make the prospect of leaving a throat-lumper. Not long Los Angeles. Now acquainted we won’t be gone for too long. Thank you for your lessons and life. Thank you Alex, Bob, Rupert, Ryan, Brandon, Vavine, Matt…and a host of others…the most gracious of hosts you certainly have been.
Just woke up today with an article in LA times. Exciting! Click here for the article
But! not sure about the line “They’re called Wim, ‘as in Wim Wenders,’ they said, which might make it the most pretentious three-letter band name in music history”.hahaha probably true but my feeling is if you want to know the meaning of WIM… its - What It Means! Thats it.

Just a quick note to let you know we’ll be appearing on ‘The Bridge’ on FBI hosted by Justin Zeltzer this coming Monday night (27th July) at 8ish…
I believe we’ll be talking about Sydney music, plans for our own musical endeavors and giving a little performance in the studio (yet to be quite formulated, but spontaneity is all a big part of it right?)…
Do tune in.
Played MUM at world bar last night as part of the myriad of Save FBi gigs that have been going on lately…
On the back of another one last Monday at the Hopetoun and some spectatorial attendance at the finale at the Metro tonight, it has been great to witness the coming together of musicians and music lovers all over Sydney in what has been a hectic month of raising some moolah for the beacon of Sydney radio and arts that is FBI.
Kudos to all involved. The crowd at the gigs have been great (again, last night was joyous and we had a lot of fun being there!) and yes! To FBI and to more cultivation of the talent that exists within this fair town. Also to the venues and organisers of the shows…
Last night concluded what has been a hectic month of live shows and now we embark on a little writing session and a month’s hiatus (unless we come out acoustic style at a show or two…we’ll see). So to wrap, for now, thanks to all who have come. Can’t wait to play more shows in August…We’ll be ramping up our shows and doing a few special things which we’re keeping under wraps for now.
Here is a taste of what went down, a live version of Rolling Around a song we’ve been playing and evolving live for a while now.
This was taken from our June 3rd show with Andy Bull at Spectrum. Hope you enjoy.
